KickiPop™ Chronicles #3 Blog – Where the Magic Starts: Home Rehearsals & Songwriting

After the whirlwind of orientation and the first day’s classes, the girls needed a place to regroup, rehearse, and really start building their music dreams. Harmony High was full of talented students, but they knew that success wasn’t just about showing up at school—it was about hours of practice, collaboration, and trust.
So they made a plan: they would rotate through each other’s homes, sharing ideas, music, and dance routines.
Catalina’s House: Songs and Family Support
Catalina’s house was cozy and warm, full of laughter, her small dog Sugar Plum trotting happily alongside them as they set up a mini rehearsal space in the living room. Her younger brother Max peeked in now and then, curious about the songs and moves, while Abuela and Abuelo cheered from the kitchen, bringing snacks and encouragement.
Catalina had a stack of notebooks filled with lyrics, melody ideas, and sketches for choreography. “Okay, first we try the chorus together,” she said, strumming lightly on her guitar.
Aya and Melody nodded, letting the rhythm settle in. Within minutes, they were harmonizing, experimenting with dance steps, and laughing at the occasional misstep.
Sugar Plum barked in excitement every time they hit a particularly good note, as if giving his seal of approval.
Aya’s House: Creative Chaos
Next stop was Aya’s home, where the energy was completely different. Her dog Nugget darted around the living room while her younger brother Evan tried to sneak in to play with him. Aya’s mother, co-owner of a flower shop with Gran, smiled encouragingly from the doorway as she helped tidy up.
“This is going to be intense,” Aya said, pulling out her keyboard. “But I love it.”
The girls spread out across the room, notebooks and sheet music flying. Melody’s dog Honey curled up on the rug nearby, listening attentively to the music. Ideas bounced off the walls as they wrote lyrics, tweaked melodies, and practiced harmonies. Aya’s creativity brought new sparks to the group—they experimented with pop, rap, and even martial arts-inspired dance moves that would eventually define their signature style.
By the time the sun dipped low in the sky, the room was filled with laughter, music, and the unmistakable sense that something extraordinary was forming.
Melody’s House: Discipline Meets Inspiration
Melody’s home offered a more structured environment. Her mother, Mrs. McCarthy, Harmony High’s music teacher, was nearby—ready to offer guidance if needed but allowing the girls to explore and create. Melody’s dog Honey padded along behind her as they arranged instruments and cleared space for dance practice.
Here, the girls focused on refining choreography and polishing vocal harmonies. Melody’s natural discipline helped everyone focus. Aya’s playful energy mixed with Catalina’s songwriting finesse to create new combinations of sound and movement.
What thrilled the girls most was discovering how naturally they could write music together. Until now, each had written songs on her own, but this felt different—a true collaboration. Their first KickiPop™ track , KickiPop World Anthem became a joint creation, and that made it even more special.
Melody and Aya credited their band-camp training for sharpening skills in songwriting, composition, and arrangement. Every member could play at least one instrument, but some were true multi-instrumentalists: Melody and Aya both moved easily between piano and guitar, while Catalina—who’d been strumming since childhood—owed her guitar chops to lessons from her beloved Abuelo. Prisha and Miyoshi brought classical depth with years of piano and violin study, and Miyoshi added the rich tones of the cello to the mix.
Even in Melody’s usually quiet living room, the magic of collaboration sparked. By the end of the evening, they had a rough but powerful version of their first group song—one that perfectly reflected their personalities and shared dreams.
Notes on Prisha
While they visited Catalina, Aya, and Melody, Prisha’s home remained off-limits for now. There was a tension there that didn’t belong in these early collaborative sessions, something that would be explored in a later blog post. But even without her home as a stop, the group learned that collaboration and creativity thrived wherever they went.
The Rhythm of KickiPop™
By the end of the week, the girls were exhausted but exhilarated. They were no longer just classmates—they were a team. Between Catalina’s inspiring lyrics, Aya’s creative ideas, and Melody’s disciplined approach, they began shaping the music and dance that would eventually become KickiPop™.
Every session strengthened their friendship, sharpened their skills, and reinforced the unspoken promise: they would support each other, no matter what.
The sun set over Fort Lauderdale, painting the sky in soft oranges and pinks, while the girls practiced one last chorus in unison. Sugar Plum, Nugget, and Honey added their own little barks and whines, as if cheering on the future stars.
The foundation was set. The music that would define them was theirs, but it was only the beginning.
