KickiPop™ Blog#2 – Orientation Day at Harmony High
The first day at Harmony High was only getting started, and the campus already felt like a miniature city. Students hurried from class to class, carrying sheet music, instruments, and oversized notebooks. The excitement was electric—and a little overwhelming.
Standing Out in the Crowd
Catalina, Aya, and Melody made their way through the sea of students, trying to find their bearings. Catalina couldn’t help feeling small among the hundreds of teens in uniform, with each uniquely different, the school strongly supported conformity while encouraging individuality, and you could see it in how each student expressed themselves with their uniforms, each one brimming with confidence—or at least pretending to. The glass-fronted school shimmered in the morning sun, and banners waved with announcements for clubs, events, and competitions.
Melody leaned over, whispering, “It’s a lot, isn’t it?”
Aya shrugged. “Like a whole city. I think we need a map just to find homeroom.”
Catalina laughed, brushing back her hair. “At least we have each other.”
Orientation and the School Song
The auditorium was packed with students for orientation. As the school song played, Mrs. Jordan the office receptionist voice echoed over the speakers while some of the other students tried to sing along. Catalina cringed, whispering to the girls beside her:
“I think that’s the most awful song I’ve ever heard.”
Melody winced. “I feel like my ears are bleeding.”
The girls laughed, glad to share a moment of honesty in the midst of all the ceremony.
Homeroom Dynamics
Once orientation ended, it was time to find homerooms. To their surprise, all three girls ended up together. They grabbed seats next to each other.
“At least we have homeroom together,” Aya said, trying to look on the bright side. “We don’t have any other classes together, though. That’s… such a bummer.”
Melody nodded. “But we’ll at least get lunch and music together too, and we can hang out after school, do homework, maybe music stuff.”
Catalina smiled. “Yeah, we’ll make it work.”
And that was the promise the girls silently made to each other.
Lunch: The Calm Before the Storm
By lunch, the girls were exhausted. Running from classroom to classroom, collecting syllabi, and getting used to the pace of the school felt like a marathon. The cafeteria was a roaring chaos of students talking at once, trays clattering, and music from the small stage corner filling the room.
Aya turned to Prisha, who set behind the girls in homeroom, just joining the table. “I feel like I need to train for a sprint to get from one class to the next.”
Prisha laughed. “More like a sprinter than a marathoner.”
Despite the chaos, the girls finally had a chance to catch their breath, share lunch, and talk about their classes and schedules.
Music Class with Mrs. McCarthy
Finally, it was time for music class—the heart of Harmony High for any aspiring musician. And this was no ordinary first day. The class was taught by none other than Mrs. McCarthy, Melody’s mother, who had a reputation for being firm but fair.
The moment the girls entered, Mrs. McCarthy made one thing clear: this was a program for students who were serious. There would be no slacking. Every assignment, every performance, and every rehearsal mattered.
Catalina, Aya, Melody, Prisha, and Miyoshi—who was also in the same music class—watched closely, taking notes as Mrs. McCarthy laid out the coursework, performance expectations, and rules for the advanced music program.
“It’s going to be intense,” Melody whispered to Aya.
Aya nodded, scribbling furiously in her notebook. “But I think we can handle it.”
The First Competition Hint
As the class ended, a new announcement flashed across the school video system: a singing and songwriting competition was coming soon. The girls crowded around the screen in the hallway, eyes wide with excitement.
Stars practically sparkled in their eyes as they read the details. In that moment, they made a pact: they would stick together, support each other, and give this everything they had.
It was the beginning of something bigger than just music. It was the start of KickiPop™.
