KickiPop™ Chronicles Blog Post #6: A Lesson from Melody’s Mom

After a long evening of practice at Melody’s house, the girls headed home. The music still lingered in the air, but something else lingered too—an unspoken lesson waiting to be shared.

As the girls left, Melody’s mom turned to her husband and said quietly, “I’m going to talk to Melody about that situation.” He nodded, already knowing what she meant, and continued tidying up the kitchen where the girls had eaten dinner.

Melody was in her room finishing homework when her mom knocked gently on her door.

“Can I have a minute?”

“Sure, Mom.”

Her mom sat on the edge of the bed, her face serious but kind.

“I heard something at school… is it true that you and Aya made an alternate version of the song the group worked on?”

Melody hesitated, then nodded. “Yeah. The girls were really upset, but we talked it out. We’re friends again.”

Her mom sighed, “I need to tell you something I promised myself I’d never share. But maybe you need to hear it.”

What followed was a story Melody never expected, her mom had once been in a girl group of her own. They were best friends, inseparable, performing everywhere, chasing their dream. Then a record label came calling. The label signed their group, they were so excited. But months later the label changed their minds and instead of them as a group, they wanted her as a solo act.

“I thought it was my big chance,” her mom confessed. “I broke up the group without any explanation. My friends were devastated. We never spoke again.”

Six months later, the label dropped her. She lost her career opportunity—and more importantly, the best friends she ever had.

“To this day, I regret it,” she said softly. “That’s why I never told you. I was ashamed. But when I heard about you and Aya, it reminded me of myself. Chase your dream, Melody. Just don’t lose your integrity. Once trust is broken, it’s almost impossible to get back.”

Melody was quiet. “What happened to your friends?”

“I don’t know,” her mom admitted. “We never spoke again. But don’t make the same mistake I did. Be honest. Be loyal.”

The next day, Melody shared her mother’s story with the group at lunch. The girls listened in shock, then made a promise to each other right then and there: never again would they go behind each other’s backs. They agreed that while each of them had different styles and dreams, they could still support one another, stay honest, and lift each other up.

From that day forward, they decided:

✨ They would remain independent artists, free to chase their own paths.

✨ But they would always come together as KickiPop™—a team, a sisterhood, and a force to be reckoned with.

Because in the end, it wasn’t just about the music. It was about trust, honesty, and never letting ambition destroy their integrity and friendship.
